Do You Believe in Miracles??
I do.
Nathan, Tricia, and Gwyneth are living proof.
I've enjoyed riding the wake of their incredible story for four months. Perhaps you have as well. It's awesome to see God's hand in their lives.
Where Quilts Multiply Like Rabbits (or confessions of an A.D.D. quilter)
It all started innocently enough. I was cleaning out the sewing closet the other day when I spotted this stack of five blocks that I had completely forgotten were there. I appliqued these flowers at least five or six years ago. I'm sure I had a great vision for them....I just don't remember what it was.
So I played around with them a bit and decided it might be fun to actually do something with them. I was thinking I'd piece some blocks to set between them, fun blocks with lots of color. I made three or four said blocks and laid them out with the appliqued flowers.
Nope. Didn't speak to me at all. Back to the drawing board.
Deciding the flowers would make a lovely table topper for the kitchen, I dug through my stash and found a pretty blue to use for sashing.
"Yes! That looks good. And I have the perfect flowery print for a border." Joy and rapture.
I only needed four blocks to do the topper. That left me with one sweet little orphan block.
Hmmmm....
"I'll make a pillow with the extra block!"
OK, so now I have this pile of pieced star blocks I had started:
I'm definitely going to do something with these right now, before I'm tempted to stack and forget them. I'm thinking a big, showy central applique block surrounded by these floral star blocks may just be the ticket.
I'm really liking how it's coming together.
And that is where I am now.
One pillow completed.
One table topper pieced and ready to quilt by machine.
And one quilt-in-the-works.
All that from one unassuming stack of forgotten blocks.
Have fun playing and being creative this weekend!
Love,
Laura Lee
Yummy Goodness
I know, I know! I promised quilts. I'll just have to keep you in suspense another day or so.
While you wait, try this delicious recipe. I asked Abby what I should call this recipe and she suggested the above name. This is one I know you'll love. A friend showed me how to make this many years ago. It's great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! You decide! I make it occasionally, but not too often for it is
loaded.with.fat.and.calories.
It has four simple ingredients. Yep, that's it. Four. You'll need:
- crescent roll dough
- sliced lunch meat
- sliced or shredded cheese
- pancake syrup
Any meat or cheese will do. Today I used chicken and provolone. I also do turkey and mozzarella, or ham and swiss. Basically, you can't mess this one up.
Roll out one tube of dough on your baking sheet, closing the seams well. Pile with your chosen meat and cheese, as much as you like. If you have children helping, yours may also look like this:
Top with the other roll of crescent dough. Pinch seams together.
Bake this at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes. Just watch it. You don't want it too dark, just a nice golden brown.
Now pull it out of the oven and drizzle some pancake syrup over the top. No measuring necessary. Don't drown it like you would your flapjacks, just give it a nice glaze.
Put the pan back in the oven and let that glaze bubble up a bit, for maybe five minutes. That's it! An awesome taste experience awaits!
Good Morning!
It's chilly here this morning and I refuse to come out until it warms up a bit.
Laura Lee said to tell you that she'll be back tomorrow. Things have been a little hectic around here the past week. She's babysat an extra young 'un a few days, had out of town company, and helped Abby cope with a kidney stone. So, not much time for blogging!
She has some pretty, new spring quilts in the works that she wants to show you. So come on back, you hear?
Meanwhile, I'm staying put right here in Lacy's bath robe.
April Wedding?
Please Pray for Tricia
(UPDATE BELOW)
You may remember my post a few months ago about Tricia, Nathan, and baby Gwyneth. I've been closely following their story since I first learned about them in January. Baby Gwyneth is doing well at 12 weeks old. Tricia has been waiting for her lung transplant since a couple weeks after the baby was born.
Tricia and Nate received the call that she would be having her double lung transplant this evening. She is in surgery right now. Please pray for all of them, especially that God will guide the doctors' hands.
This has to be such a scary time for them.
Thanks!
edited to add: The surgery was a success! Pray for no infection and no rejection!
edited again to add: Tricia is up walking around now, without the ventilator. This is the first time since October that she's been off the vent! Gwyneth will be 13 weeks old tomorrow. She's being moved out of the incubator into a bassinet this week. She is breathing on her own and taking a bottle now. God is good!
