Lacy's Newest Creation and the Cutest Grandbaby Ever

Almost daily, Lacy surprises me with a new creation from her knitting needles or crochet hook. Today was no exception.

I came walking into the room to find a knitted egg flying towards my head.

"Think quick!" she yells.

I flipped it inside out.

And found this friendly alligator inside.

She got the idea for the egg from this book. But the alligator is her own design.

He's perfect for Kyle's room, which you can see by clicking over to Abby's blog.

Which reminds me that I've never officially introduced Kyle to the blogosphere!! I think it is high time I did that, don't you?

Here he is in all his adorableness, waiting to go home from the hospital. He was born on March 2, 2011 at 11AM. He's the cutest, sweetest baby ever.

October Family Weekend and Fall Give-Away

Oh, my! It's October already! The first weekend in October we always celebrate with Tom's side of the family in north Georgia for our fabulous weekend reunion. This year's theme: Russia/Ukraine. More on that and pics to follow.

Time to update you on the Baby Saint status. Abby had a sonogram last week and learned that the baby is a BOY! So very excited about our new little grandson expected in late February.

My sister-in-law, Rochelle, guessed his name on her first try. So, she's the winner of the name game give-away. Rochelle, you have a pan of chocolate brownies coming your way shortly!

A Little Birdie Told Me It Was Spring!

I told you the Spring Give-Away would be different. And I wasn't joking. Lacy and I put our heads together to make these wreaths to give away to two of you!

First up is a perky little rag wreath I put together with some of my favorite fabrics. Bright, cheerful, and tied with my signature gingham, this one comes with a special little friend attached! I can think of a dozen places I'd hang this...laundry room...powder room...or maybe even right on the back door. I hope it will bring a smile to everyone who sees it.

Next up is this adorable crocheted flower wreath made by Lacy just for you! I was so pleased with the way this turned out. The idea for the flowers came from Lucy's blog. If you could use a little sunshine in your day, I suggest you stop by her blog for a look-see at Attic 24.

When I saw Lucy's little flowers the other day, I asked Lacy if she would mind stitching some into a wreath for me. The words were barely out of my mouth before she was turning out these jaunty blooms.

My favorite thing about Spring, if I have to chose just one, is hearing the whippoorwill in the evenings when we walk around the neighborhood.

She Keeps Us in Stitches!

Lacy, our resident yarn buff, has been stitching up some stylish togs for her little sisters' American Girl dolls. She amazes me the way she can fashion these without a pattern. She just dreams them up and turns them out like it's nothing. Today I thought I'd show you some of her latest creations. (click on the photos to enlarge them)

This is Holly's doll, Elizabeth, ready for a day of shopping on the town.

Here is Felicity, Maggie's doll, warming up in ballet class.

By the way, Felicity and Elizabeth are best friends.

Elizabeth removed her poncho to show you her adorable top and

skirt ensemble. The shoes are also crocheted.

Felicity is all gussied up in her formal evening wear.

The black and white dress works for any special occasion.

Showing you another style is Elizabeth,

with a quick change into her jumper.

Here Felicity dons her black pants and green poncho.

Her boots are really fun, with their fuzzy tops!

Did I tell you that Elizabeth is engaged?

So is Felicity...imagine that!

They are planning a double wedding in the Spring!

Stichin' Love and a Braggity Moment

Is it cold where you are?

We are quite chilly here. Lacy and Bella have been camped out by the fire all morning, Lacy working on some crochet. She made the crocheted Christmas throw that they are lying on. She never divulges her secrets; so I wonder what she is up to now....?

Here is what she was up to on Friday night. She played The First Noel at her recital with her good friend, Rachel. Please humor me in this braggity moment....

Aren't they good?? They have both been taking violin for a little over a year.

Anyway, I know what Bella is up to. She's trying to stay warm, as you can tell by her not one, but two sweaters. Don't laugh. If you only weighed five pounds and had almost no fur, you'd be chilly too. Besides, the girl has style and the layered look is IN!

Meanwhile I'm working on some Christmas stiching. It's a little gifty for someone who will necessarily remain unnamed. This is a linen "doily" for lack of a better word. My mom found some of these at an estate sale and graciously gave them to me, knowing I love anything vintage. I thought it was the perfect foundation for some redwork.

Speaking of redwork, here is a favorite Christmas quilt that I made several years ago. I lucked into this one, half-made, thanks to Ellen, who made one, then started this one and didn't want to finish it! It has seven redwork blocks with Christmas motifs. I think the pattern is called Irish Chain. I love to display it in the family room each Christmas.

I'm back to stitchin'! Time's a wastin', as they say!

Afghan of Many Colors

On a chilly November morning, nothing is quite as cozy as a warm fire and a bright, cheerful afghan. This is the afghan that Grandmama made me for Christmas. Of course, I told her exactly what I wanted! So, she gave it to me a little early, so we can enjoy it all winter long. Thank you, Grandmama!
